About Paul Martinez

Paul Martinez is a Multimedia Professional who graduated from Florida International University in Fall 2019, with a bachelor's degree in Communications and track focused on Broadcast Media. Paul has experience in Customer Service, Digital Journalism, and Broadcast Journalism. He is a Customer Service Staff at Publix Supermarkets where he has been working since August 2017. At FIU, Paul was a sports columnist for the South Florida Media Network where he made a connection between sports and youth in America.

Through his coursework at FIU, Paul was able to variate his skill set and gained knowledge in Marketing, Advertising, Social Media, and Public Relations. Also, Paul completed a certificate in eMarketing & Social Media Analytics at FIU. He also completed a Sports Industry Essentials certificate from Columbia University, where he gained extensive knowledge on the changing sports industry in terms of it's business trends.

​From November 2018 to August 2019, Paul was a Intern at CBS4 Miami, through the Emma Bowen Foundation where he is a fellow. At CBS4, Paul worked with the Digital Team to produce content for the station's website. This included writing for the site, handling the station's social media accounts, cutting video from daily newscasts through Anvato, pitching story ideas, editing images on Photoshop and editing pieces from TV scripts into articles.

Paul also worked with TV production at CBS4. He assisted in writing scripts for packages. Most of the scripts he worked on were special projects pieces, which dealt more with the community and the people of Miami. He helped write a piece about a group of students from a local university who were travelling to the Amazon on a medical mission to help villagers in the region. Paul helped one of the station's producers write the piece, gather images, and he sat through the entire editing process as well.

 

In August 2019, Paul began an internship with the Miami HEAT as a TV Broadcast intern. He works with the broadcast team by logging game highlights, editing video content and helping shoot stories and features as well. The internship runs through the 2019-2020 NBA season.

Paul feels he can bring a fresh perspective to any field he is put into. He is committed to diversifying his knowledge and skills. As a media professional, he has experience shooting video, editing, writing, and on-camera work as well.

Paul transitioned into a production assistant role with ESPN in August 2021, through the ESPN NEXT program. Since then, Paul has worked on ESPN's iconic flagship program, Sportscenter, as a member of the RISE group. With the RISE group, Paul has produced various video elements airing on several programs, including First Take, Daily Wager, NFL Live, Get Up, and so on. Paul has produced, edited and written elements including: the 2022 NFL Draft Tease, 2022 NBA Draft Tease, 2021 NHL Season Tease, 2022 Stanley Cup Final Tease. Paul also produced, edited and wrote a tease revolving around Ja Morant's incredible journey from relatively unknown high school prospect, to NBA superstardom. Paul has produced and edited several NBA Playoff game recaps for the 2022 playoffs. These include Game 7 of the Eastern Conference Finals, Game 1&2 of the NBA Finals, and the Stanley Cup Final Game 6 recap.

Along with specialty content, Paul has produced multiple Sportscenter teases, opening the show on several occasions. Through these teases, Paul has looked to variate and expand the creativity to which Sportscenter begins it's shows.

​

As of July 2022, Paul has moved to the College Sports department at ESPN and is joining the College Gameday team for the 2022 College Football season.

​

Paul has grown exponentially through his experiences at ESPN, but is driven to continue to grow and gain the necessary skills to reach his full potential. Paul believes that with his relentless work ethic, he could continue to evolve as a content creator and aspiring producer.
